Jammu Srinagar NHW Closed Due to Landslide

As of 8:00 am on February 22, 2023, the Jammu Srinagar National Highway (NHW) is still closed due to a landslide near Sherbibi, Banihal. Restoration work is underway, and people are advised not to travel on NH-44 until the restoration work is completed.

According to the Traffic Police Headquarters in Jammu and Kashmir, the NHW remained blocked for 13 hours and 50 minutes on February 20, 2023, due to a landslide and shooting stones near Sherbibi.

The C-N Tunnel was also closed for 2 hours and 30 minutes by the Tunnel authority, resulting in a total blockage of 16 hours and 20 minutes. In addition, there was a breakdown of two Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) on NH-44 between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel.

The Traffic Police Headquarters has issued an advisory stating that only HMVs with six and ten tyres will be allowed to ply through Dhar road. The SSG Road and Mughal Road are closed for vehicular movement due to snow accumulation as per Divisional Commissioner Ladakh UT’s order and District Magistrate Shopian’s order, respectively.

People are advised to confirm the status of the road from traffic control units before undertaking a journey on NH-44.
